Curly, with the Canadian sewn in tag has recently hit California wearing a redesigned satin ribbon with embossed gold lettering that reads, "Ragtime". This particular Curly originated in Canada and was purchased from Ty Canada as a promotion for the Tony Award winning Broadway "Ragtime" by producer Livent (U.S.) Inc., who also produced the critically acclaimed productions of "Show Boat" and "Joseph and the amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". These original Canadian Curlys were sold at the concession stands at the Ford Center for the performing arts in Toronto, Canada for the musical Ragtime in April, 1997. I spoke to Ty Canada and they are not endorsing anything they merely sold Curly!!! Therefore this is not a permanent style change and has nothing to do with the official Ty Beanie Baby collection.
I am very proud of my neice, Cassie, who was in the last Chicago production of "Joseph" with Donny Osmond. Coincidently, Cassie along with the family was in Toronto, Canada this passed spring to see the Ragtime production!! Of course they didn't see The Ragtime Curly. They were too busy searching for Maple!!!
The musical Ragtime will premiere October 27, 1998 in Chicago at the new Ford Center for the performing arts, formerly the Oriental Theatre. Tickets can be ordered by calling 1 312 902 1500.
Oh! for a little culture------ The Ragtime Musical is based on E.L. Doctorow's best selling novel. This story is based on three families: an upper middle class white, one socialist immigrant, and a Harlem black immigrant whose turn of the century lives become intermingled with one another.
I do apologize to the many people e-mails received regarding this Canadian Curly with the Ragtime satin ribbon!!!! A very good friend and Beanie expert, Myrtle, called me this morning and was very excited about this Canadian Curly!!! I knew it was not just a dumb Beanie Rumor. Remember Buyer Beware ---- It has to be a Canadian Curly!!!!! I am waiting for him to arrive and I will describe the satin ribbon for all of you!!!
